Nicosia, Cyprus – October 26, 2026

Igor Makarov, international entrepreneur and founder of ARETI International Group, attended the official inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in Nicosia on October 26, 2026, marking an important milestone in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Moldova and Cyprus.

The ceremony brought together senior government officials, diplomats and representatives of the business community, including Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi. The event highlighted opportunities for closer bilateral cooperation, trade and investment.

As a citizen of both Moldova and Cyprus, Igor Makarov maintains longstanding personal and business connections with both countries. His involvement in Moldova dates back to the 1990s, when ITERA, the international energy company he founded, supplied natural gas to the country and participated in industrial and energy projects. More recently, Makarov has explored new investment opportunities in Moldova’s energy sector and other areas of the economy.

In Cyprus, where he has lived for more than three decades, Makarov established ARETI International Group, a Cyprus-registered international group of companies with diversified interests across global markets. He also actively supports local sports development and community initiatives.

Makarov’s participation in the inauguration reflects his longstanding ties to both countries and his interest in promoting stronger economic cooperation and investment opportunities between Moldova and Cyprus.

The ceremony concluded with a reception celebrating the 35th anniversary of Moldova’s independence.
